Southwest Trek Fun Club – 2018 Quartzsite Rally Update
(Because so many of our NWTFC members head for warmer weather come winter, I am adding this information on the Quartzsite Rally. Mary)
From: Cathy Haight and Ken Harmon
Some members have volunteered to keep the Quartzsite Trek rally happening, January 18-21, 2018. This will be the 13th year that we have been meeting at the same place in the Arizona desert near the California border, in conjunction with the Quartzsite RV Show. We invite and welcome anybody who owns a Trek, anybody who has ever owned a Trek, and anybody who has ever thought about owning a Trek.
Come to this rally for no cost, no host, no hook-ups, and no worries. It is best to arrive with a full water tank and empty black/grey tanks. There is no trash deposit so we take our trash with us when we leave. It is free to camp on this BLM land for up to 14 days. This low-key gathering takes place Thursday through Sunday, but many people arrive a few days early and stay for several days after the rally.
From I-10, take Exit 17 (West Quartzsite) and go south of the freeway. Turn right (west) on the paved frontage road, which is Dome Rock Road, on the north side of Love’s Truck Stop. You will pass a motel on the right. At the “Y” in the road, turn left (south) onto Cholla Road. It will take you around the west side of the mountain. Look for rally signs and Treks to find a dirt road on the right (west). We park a short distance off the paved road (Cholla). When you arrive, please just find a place to park, pulling in fairly close to leave room for others.
Each individual Trek must register with the BLM, a process that is fast, simple, and free. Usually the camp host is located about ½ mile west of the “Y” on Dome Road. If you come to the Trek location first, you can find out for sure where registration will be this year.
THURSDAY at 5 pm we will share heavy appetizers for Happy Hour at the campfire. FRIDAY at 4 pm, Trekkers are invited to the Redlands Truck and RV tent for snacks, beverages, and information before their delicious BBQ at 6. SATURDAY is the opening of the Quartzsite RV Show, largest RV swap meet in the world, www.quartzsitervshow.com. It is just a few miles from the rally and it runs for nine days, 9 am-5 pm. Back at our campfire, we will have Happy Hour at 5 pm, followed by a potluck dinner at 6 pm. SUNDAY morning we will have a “yard” sale at the sites of those with items that need new homes.
For more information please see the Trek Tracks Forum on-line at www.trektraxs.com.
Useful things to bring if you want: potluck food to share, clothes for cool nights, table, firewood, smiles. What you will get: help and advice, campfires, hiking, solar help, new friends, jokes, games, LED’s for sale, good conversation.
